Book of the day: Sabriel (The Abhorsen Trilogy) Garth Nix; Eos 1997

Probably one of my favorite books of all time is Sabriel by Garth Nix. I have read this book over and over and it never gets old to me. It’s a scary book, but the magical system that is core of the story of this book is more what fascinates me, than it being a glorified zombie book. It’s a ‘i didn’t want to or expected on being the hero, kind of book’.

Today was an interesting day for me. I spent the morning cleaning my house, picking up clothing off the floor, shredded toys belonging to my kitty and general tidying up. There wasn’t a lot to do other than the obvious storage of my skis for the summer and stowing away my snow gear, as it is unlikely that Denver will get another big snowstorm. I am generally quite emotional about having to put the skis away, this year is no exception. Its fought with the wish to have just one more trip out on the snow and the sorrow of having to wait six or more months to have that next slide down the snowy hill. November couldn’t come soon enough, as I hate summer.

I lost an acquaintance this week, but I think it’s for the better that Aimie and I go our separate ways. It is unfortunate to me that we were unable to resolve our differences. Yet I am glad that I won’t have to deal with getting screamed at whenever I am with her for some of the most silly reasons. Hopefully I’ll be able to find a new acquaintance that can fill Aimie’s now empty shoes.

I am continuing some work on trying to get Tenchi to eat new foods. Tomorrow will be even more work as I will be buying 3 cans of earthborn, weruva, tiki cat, nature’s variety, nature’s balance and Innova Evo. Hopefully I can get Tenchi to lay off the ‘McDonald’s’ and eat her ‘Broccoli’!

School is so so at the moment. It is getting into my least favorite time of year, where its warm some days but cold on other days and with Denver you really can’t predict what the temperature will be day-to-day.

And this year, on top of the dry weather we are having, my heels decided to crack open and bleed. I am still trying to see if I can get them to heal up on their own, using Neosporin and a strong moisturizer along with a hello kitty band-aid! But if I can’t get them to start to close up by the end of the week, I am going to go see a Doc, to see if there is a stronger moisturizer or if I am just chronically dehydrated. Which isn’t the hardest thing to do when you are in Colorado.

I really enjoy reading, it is one of the more fun things you can do while taking the long bus ride to boulder or while you wait for your cat to finish her dinner. Which is wear I like to take my Barnes and Noble Nook out for a spin. Currently I am readingBlack heartHolly Black; Margaret K. McElderry Books April 2012

I am noticing Tenchi seems to like the wet foods that have actual chunks of meat, as opposed to ZiwiPeak’s and Fancy Feast Classics pate style. I don’t want to have to buy a bunch of different one’s only to open it and see pate, pate, pate and have Tenchi sniff, lick, leave. But such as life, i’ll do anything for my little goofball da bird catching monster. Tonight I am going to try her on some 9lives and Friskies, might even try the dreadful meow mix on her in attempt to get her to eat something that is actually decent for her. I also plan to take the advice of Jennifer of Floppycats.com in that she suggested that I explain my issue to the various pet food manufactures and see if they’d offer samples of food to entice Tenchi with. Hopefully they will come forward!

It has been so incredibly dry in Colorado lately that my heels have cracked open. It isn’t a pleasant feeling to be walking along and have every step be painful. I am trying some Neutrogena sensitive skin moisturizer to see if that will help my heels heal up. But if that doesn’t work, I might ask my parents to let me see a dermatologist.

I also put in the pictures of the finished cat bowl and a cup that I painted after painting Tenchi’s cat bowl. The methodology that I will be using is the standard method used to switch cat foods according to Natural Nutrition for cats by Kymythy R. Schultz, c.n., c.n.c. Which is to start them with a small fraction of the new food and a large fraction of the old food and slowly shift the fractions of the food until the cat is completely on the new food. It is very similar to the method used to switch cats to different kitty litters.

I’ll try to keep you all posted on how Tenchi is doing in terms of transitioning to her New Zealand Venison style food, and I know that I won’t be a happy camper until she is finishing as much of the can as she does her fancy feast. But ultimately I want my cat to life a long and healthy life, and the method I hope to do this by is through feeding her the best food money can by and by giving her the best veterinary care that I can. As she is my little furkid and I love her.

In other news, I got a 95% on my last exam in my biology class, which I am very pleased about and I did a decent job on the last lab examination, a modest 94% grade. So I guess you can say that school is doing okay.

Nothing to report in terms of hanging out with friends or what not, mostly been working on school work and cleaning the apartment. Which seems to be a every day chore, that I abhor to do.  So with nothing else to say folks, I will give you an update tomorrow.

My Foster Kitten

For the weekend of my birthday and because I wanted to help out more with the Maxfund animal shelter. I fostered this kitten from Thursday-Monday. Thought you folks would find it cute.
